Q. What is Nielsen’s Mobile Ratings™ Service?

 

A: Our new Mobile Ratings™ Service is designed to collect audio and video activity from Apple iTunes. This is accomplished using a non-invasive software program which runs each time you use Apple iTunes.

Q: Will Nielsen sell my personal information to third parties?

 

A: No, as with all personal information Nielsen collects, yours will remain strictly confidential. The information you provide will only be used to group your data with that of other study participants.

Q: Will the Mobile Ratings™ Service detect or monitor any information regarding where my music or videos come from?

 

A: No, the software will not detect or monitor where your music or video files originated from, only how you are using your Apple iTunes and\or Apple iPod.

Q: I have a personal firewall on my computer. Do I need to set it up to allow the program to have access to the Internet? If so, how do I set it up?

 

A: Yes, you will need to set up your firewall to allow access. You can do this by opening your firewall program to the area where Internet Applications are shown. You should see a permissions list there. You need to allow full access for the Nielsen Mobile Ratings™ Application to send and receive data from the Internet.

Please be sure all household members using the computer to which you load the Mobile Ratings™ software are aware of this.

Q: How often do I need to open Apple iTunes or connect my Apple iPod?

 

A: Use your Apple iTunes and Apple iPod as often as you normally would.

Q: Are there any specific settings that should be set in Apple iTunes?

 

A: No, just use the default settings.

Q: Do I need to have a specific Operating System on my computer in order to participate?

 

A: Yes, you must be running either Windows XP or later or Mac OS X Version 10.3.9 or later, if you are on a Mac. To confirm what operating system you have, for Windows users, right click My Computer on your Desktop, then select Properties and the Operating System name will appear at the top of the window under the General tab. For Mac users, click on the Apple Icon on the menu bar on the upper left of your screen and select “About this Mac”.

Q: Will the software affect the performance of my computer?

 

A: No, the software should not affect the performance of your computer in any way.

Q: Is there a reward for participation in this study?

 

A: Yes, you will receive a brief survey at the end of each 3-month period during your measurement period. After we receive your completed survey each quarter, you will receive a Gift Certificate worth $25 from Amazon.com as a token of our appreciation.

Q: When and how do I uninstall the Nielsen software once the measurement period is over?

 

A: We will send you an email containing a link to de-install the software within about two weeks after the measurement period ends.
